Ms. Susanne Kirchmeyer, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, Germany
Place: B4-18

Time: 10.30 – 11.15
Description: Bauhaus-Universität Weimar is an international university with almost 30 percent of international students. Most of them are students of English-speaking degree programmes and do not speak any German when they arrive in Weimar. In order to enable administrative and technical staff to communicate effectively with these students in English, the AdmINT procect has been created. The project is supported by the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and focuses on language training, intercultural training and support of staff mobility. As one of the project partners, the Language Centre has created a number of course formats to help the administrative and technical staff improve their communicative English skills. General and specialised English courses and modules are complemented by on-the-job trainings (e.g. for the universitys library staff) and lunchtime activities in English. The lecture will give an overview of these activities and aims at identifying partner institutions with similar programmes who might be interested in sharing their experience and expertise and cooperating with the Language Centre of Bauhaus-Universität Weimar.
