Description: In 2017 we set up a language project for our Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese classes for the first time. In this project the emphasis lies on the communication skills rather than correct use of the language. We always had thought that our students, in the first place, should have built up a solid basic knowledge of a language before they go to Asia for their international study; more learning of grammar, vocabulary and characters (Chinese and Japanese) than of communication skills. However some of us realized learning language is a life time enterprise through which we try to communicate with persons in other countries from the very beginning. So there is no border between getting knowledge and learning skills. That’s why these teachers wanted to start this innovative language project in which students get chances to use the language in authentic situations out of the classroom. However, before this idea could be eventually implemented, internal skepticism among ourselves (language teachers and students) must have been overcome.
